Stone and water are a wonderful combination of natural elements to be applied to garden furnishings. Micci Peperino has always created stone sculptures. All objects are produced with mechanical support and are hand-carved by our artists after a design consultation with the client. In this article, we tell you about a stone sculpture that we had the honor of creating for a dear friend, Gianni Naso, owner of an extremely unique and characteristic Farm Stay located on the border between Lazio and Tuscany. Micci Peperino, at the client’s request, created a modern stone sculpture to represent him: a life-size piano. This sculpture, like the rest of the furnishings, has become an aesthetic focal point of his restaurant, appreciated and photographed by all his guests.
The Idea
Gianni has always had a great passion for music and was a major television producer. In his fantastic career, he directed five Sanremo Festivals and numerous Rai broadcasts. His innate passion for music led him to center the entire Farm Stay around the musical theme.
Inside the venue, in the main dining room, there is a beautiful antique wooden piano. This piano, which is no longer used today, has become a highly original display for vinyl records. The restaurant owner wanted to create a work that would honor his instrument and pass it down through time.
Based on this idea, we designed the stone piano. After studying and measuring the actual piano, we reproduced the design on the computer. Subsequently, together with the client, we defined the details, the material, and its function.
Creating the Stone Sculpture
Our stone sculptures are not the result of assembling pieces but are created starting from a single block. We excavated a block of Light Grey Peperino stone from our natural stone quarry, from which we then crafted the piano.
The keyboard was made starting from a block of Carrara White Marble. We used the CNC milling machine to recreate the shape of the keys corresponding to the notes. The black keys, on the other hand, were made with Marquina Black Marble, a very high-quality black marble, one of the most highly regarded from Spain. Extracted in the north of the country, it has become famous throughout the world for its beautiful black color veined with white.
The Installation
The piano was transported to the Farm Stay in two parts. On site, we joined the components and installed the hydraulic pump for the fountain’s operation. Water flows out from a slit positioned along the keyboard; thanks to a recirculation system, a continuous flow is ensured. The hydraulic pump, positioned inside the casing, is completely inspectable via the lid.
